 "The Vanishing Hitchhiker" or as sometimes referred to as "The Phantom Hitchhiker" is one of the most famous urban legends that have existed. This story has many variations and it varies according to the location.     The legend goes that one day a couple were driving on the highway when they saw a girl on the side of the road. They stopped to ask if they could give her a ride and she agreed. She told the address to her house and then she stopped talking. The couple thought she fell fast asleep, so they didn't bother waking her up. However, when they reached their destination, they turned around to tell the girl but they found out she was gone, just vanished. They told the story to whoever was there and the man responded that she was his daughter and that she has died a few years back. The couple was astonished and they did not utter a word. When a Stranger Calls

A lot of people, especially teenagers, have heard about this story. It is often referred to as "The Babysitter and the man upstairs", or like the 1979 or 2006 version of the film "When a Stranger Calls". This is like one of the most popular urban legends that has survived over many decades.       This story is about a babysitter and a couple of children, others say three. In this story, a married couple go out for dinner and leave the children with a babysitter, specifically a high school student. They tell the children are already asleep and she need not wake them up. A short while after they are gone, the phone rings but when she answers no one talks. This happens a couple of times, and she thinks it is her boyfriend that she has been waiting for a call from.
