When a Stranger Calls

A lot of people, especially teenagers, have heard about this story. It is often referred to as "The
Babysitter and the man upstairs", or like the 1979 or 2006 version of the film "When a Stranger Calls". This is like one of the most popular urban legends that has survived over many decades.

This story is about a babysitter and a couple of children, others say three. In this story, a married couple go out for dinner and leave the children with a babysitter, specifically a high school student. They tell the children are already asleep and she need not wake them up. A short while after they are gone, the phone rings but when she answers no one talks. This happens a couple of times, and she thinks it is her boyfriend that she has been waiting for a call from. But it is not him, because the next time she answers, a stranger says "Did you check on the children?" then hangs up. This happens again. Finally, she calls the police but they tell her as long as she has not been threatened it is probably just a prank. However, they tell her they can trace the call especially that she was freaking out. Later, the man calls again and the police manages to trace the call. They tell her that the call is coming from inside the house and she must get out of there. The police arrive and the man emerges from the upper level of the house with blood all over him, other versions say that the children hid in a cabinet. Long story short, the guy gets arrested and the girl is psychologically damaged forever.

The truth is that there is no any recorded history of any similar accidents. It is mostly believed that this story is just a projection of the writer's imagination. Nonetheless, the events and the dialogue were so real that people actually believed that this story is true. Some say this actually happened somewhere in Indiana before, but nothing has confirmed it, but hey all the stories got to start somewhere, right?
