Boogeyman Is Real

Stories about monsters have been going on forever, especially those that speak of monsters under the bed. There is almost no child on earth that has not heard of this story at least once in their lives and got scared of it.

The myth about the "Boogeyman" goes under a lot of names. They go something along these lines: a monster hides under the bed to scare non-obedient children and make them behave themselves, or the other version, a patient has escaped a mental health institution and crawls at night and murders children.

Other myths exist all over the world under a lot of names. For instance, in Spain and Mexico, there is the myth of "El Coco". It is basically the same story about someone who takes away misbehaving children, or more specifically orphans and their misbehavior is pretty much refusing to go to sleep.
This was very famous in Spain during the 16th and 17th Centuries.

Japan and Korea among other countries in the world have their fair shares of boogeyman stories. For example, in Philippines, they have the " Pugot Mamu". He is basically a huge, headless shape-shifter who eats misbehaving children through a hole in his neck. The myth states that he lives among trees and in deserted houses.

The truth behind this myth is somehow weird. The man referred to in this story is not actually a patient but an employee. He used to work at Willowbrook state school which was pretty much a school for disabled children. Long story short, in 1978 this place was shut down. Not long after, locals reported seeing someone lurking around their houses. Funnily enough, this was around the same time more children started disappearing. After being arrested, the man actually confessed to murdering an 8-year-old girl. He was not never brought to trial but the thoughts are that he is responsible for all the kids gone missing.
