El Dorado "City of Gold"

There are many legends about lost cities in the world, each with its own unique feature. This one really speaks out, I mean how many cities are there in the world that are made of gold?!😮😖

You may have heard about El Dorado, the city that is made of gold. So let's delve into this a bit more. The legend goes that some hundreds of years ago, specifically the 16th Century in South America, Colombia. There was this man named El Dorado-the king of the Musica tribe. The story goes that this man was so wealthy he started covering himself in gold dust, jump into Lake Guatavita, then surface clean. A bunch of jewelry would be thrown with him in the lake as well, as an offering to the gods according to them. Somehow the word got to the Spanish people, and so the myth was born. The Spanish tried finding this city of gold, in which they found some gold in Lake Guatavita, but apparently it wasn't enough for them so they kept looking.

For the next centuries, people from America, Spain and Germany tried locating the city but their attempts went in vain. Even the English Sir Walter Raleigh tried looking for it but it did not end well. So the city remained only a myth never found.

However, this story is not all sad, ever heard of the Cadillac El dorado? Yup, that car was actually based on the myth, so at least something good came out of it. Edgar Allan Poe's poem as well.

Back to reality. There is no doubt that the Musica was a real tribe whose central culture was based on gold, no one denies that they were very wealthy. In addition, this city may or may not have existed, but let's think about this, shall we? If this city never really existed, how come the word got to the Spanish people, and why do so many people keep looking for it till our present day? After all, all the stories got to start somewhere.

But how far is this story true? Turns out that after almost 500 years of search by unfathomable amount of people, that the city actually exists, even if it is just some of it. Thanks to science and technology, Laser mapping enabled scientists to locate fractions of this city of gold in the deep hearts of the American jungle.
